Naldy Saldaña's harassment claim triggers investigations and industry response

Former vocalist of the Peruvian cumbia group La Bella Luz, Naldy Saldaña, filed a criminal complaint alleging sexual harassment and non‑consensual touching by the orchestra’s musical director César Sánchez Chavesta. Video footage released on the program Magaly TV shows the alleged assault during a rehearsal in Lima on 18 June. The accusation prompted a preliminary investigation by the Public Prosecutor’s Office, the involvement of the Ministry of Women and Vulnerable Populations (MIMP) which offered legal, psychological and social assistance, and the immediate indefinite suspension of the director by La Bella Luz. Numerous cumbia groups and public figures expressed solidarity with Saldaña, while her parents travelled to Lima demanding justice. The Defensoría del Pueblo called for swift action, and the case has sparked broader discussion about workplace safety in the music industry.
