Peru opposition parties form parliamentary coalition led by Roberto Sánchez
Three opposition parties – Juntos por el Perú, Ahora Nación and the Civic Works Party – signed a legislative coalition for the new bicameral Congress. The agreement was announced by party leaders Roberto Sánchez Palomino, Alfonso López Chau and Ricardo Belmont, who said the bloc will coordinate a common agenda in both the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies.
The coalition formally recognized the official election results announced by the National Jury of Elections, while retaining the right to question alleged irregularities during the vote. Its legislative programme prioritises repealing the so‑called “pro‑crime” laws, restoring the citizen referendum, demanding justice for victims of recent southern protests, and advocating the release of former president Pedro Castillo.
Members of the bloc said they will exercise political control from both chambers, monitor public powers and promote reforms aimed at strengthening institutional independence, citizen rights and public security.
