Peru police conduct major operations against illegal mining and organized crime
Peruvian authorities have conducted a series of intensive operations targeting illegal mining, organized crime, and various forms of theft across multiple regions.
In Madre de Dios, joint operations by the Joint Command and the National Police (PNP) have targeted illegal mining and drug trafficking. These efforts include the destruction of 370 camps in the Tambopata Reserve and the seizure of assets and equipment valued at millions of soles. In Áncash, police seized over 180 tons of polymetallic mineral and explosives from a group known as ‘Los Explosiveros de Flor de Cantú’.
In urban areas, law enforcement has dismantled several criminal networks. In San Martín de Porres, seven members of ‘Los Patrones del Cupo’ were arrested for extortion and attacks against transport companies. Other recent arrests include members of ‘Los Malditos de Paul Harris’ in Chiclayo, ‘Los Lechuceros de San Miguel’ in San Miguel, and ‘Los Finteros de 26’ in Piura following an armed robbery.
Additionally, police apprehended suspects involved in a robbery at the residence of actress Bárbara Cayo in San Isidro, and a thief was caught by municipal security in San Juan de Miraflores after stealing a mobile phone.
