Peruvian police arrest suspect in retired officer's murder

Peruvian National Police (PNP) have arrested Luis Alberto Evaristo Pachas, known as ‘Chato’, in connection with the murder of retired sub-officer Marcelino Llacchua Pacco. The arrest took place in the Comas district following intelligence and surveillance operations.

The victim, 63, was killed on October 7 in San Martín de Porres while attempting to prevent the theft of his vehicle. Investigators allege that Evaristo Pachas, a suspected member of the criminal gang ‘La Maldición del Hampa’, acted as the driver for the vehicle used by the assailants to flee the scene.

During the operation, authorities seized three vehicles, 13 rounds of ammunition, two magazines, a mobile phone, and two license plates. Police records indicate that Evaristo Pachas has a criminal history for aggravated robbery and previously served nearly 14 years in prison. Authorities believe at least five individuals participated in the crime and expect further arrests in the coming days.
