Criminal investigations in Peru

Overview

Authorities in Peru are conducting various investigations into violent crimes. In late September, prosecutors sought 18 months of preventive detention for a police officer, Luis Felipe Sandoval Díaz, accused of murdering his wife in the Ate district following a domestic dispute.

By October, investigations shifted toward gang-related violence. The Peruvian National Police arrested Luis Alberto Evaristo Pachas, a suspected member of the ‘La Maldición del Hampa’ gang, in connection with the October 7 murder of retired sub-officer Marcelino Llacchua Pacco. The victim was killed during an attempted vehicle theft in San Martín de Porres. Police seized ammunition and vehicles during the operation and believe multiple individuals were involved in the crime.
