Peruvian Police Bust Extortion Ring in Lima, Seize Weapons and Cash
The National Police’s Criminal Investigation Directorate arrested a couple in Lurín, Lima, as part of a frontal operation against the extortion outfit known as Los Injertos del Sur. The detainees, identified as Joel Christofer Lobato Herrera and Roxana Brigitte Leyva Guevara, are accused of extorting merchants, transporters and businessmen and of possessing illegal firearms.
During the raid officers recovered a Glock 25 pistol, a mini‑Uzi, conversion kits, 47 rounds of 9 mm ammunition, 34 rounds of .380 auto, multiple SIM cards, micro‑SD cards, phone equipment, a bank card and S/2,600 in cash. The police said the operation struck a significant blow against the criminal network that pressures businesses in southern Lima and highlighted ongoing cooperation with the Public Ministry to dismantle the group’s finances and infrastructure.
