Peruvian police capture alleged hitman in mayor murder case

Peruvian authorities in the Piura region captured 19‑year‑old Fabricio Fiestas Susanival, known as “Fabri,” who is accused of firing the shots that killed municipal mayor Victor Hugo Febre of Veintiséis de Octubre in October. The operation, carried out near La Brea‑Negritos, followed intelligence work that tracked Fabri after he fled to Chile with 2,500 soles and later returned to Talara.

Fabri was seized by agents of the Depincri Piura, transferred to the Negritos and Talara police stations and then moved to the Sullana department office for investigation of homicide, serious injuries to driver Jorge Chau Aranda, and possession of ammunition and narcotics. Separate proceedings have sentenced councilwoman Patricia Niño Febres to 18 months preventive detention for alleged involvement in planning the mayor's assassination, while several other suspects remain under investigation.
