Peruvian police detain Venezuelan suspects in armed bus attack

Peruvian National Police captured two Venezuelan men, Rander Rebolledo Montes (23) and José Bolívar Aldama (20), after a chase on the Panamericana Norte highway in the Los Olivos district of Lima. The suspects were found with a pistol, a revolver, a grenade, an extortion letter, around 200 g of marijuana, phones and a motorcycle. The explosive device required intervention by the Explosives Disposal Unit (UDEX).

Authorities say the detainees are linked to a series of attacks on inter‑provincial transport companies, including a June 13 assault on an El Dorado vehicle near Puente Piedra and a June 18 shooting of a Cruz del Norte unit. Police chief Jorge Luis Castillo tied the pair to these incidents, indicating a broader extortion‑oriented crime network targeting public transport.

The arrests aim to curb violent intimidation of passengers and operators on Peru’s highway system.
