In early August 2026 President Keiko Fujimori announced that the Peruvian Armed Forces will be deployed to streets and the public‑transport system to combat rising organized crime, extortion and other illicit activities. The Council of Ministers approved the measure, which will see military patrols working alongside the National Police and supporting the National Penitentiary Institute. Fujimori said the deployment will begin in the coming days and will include patrols on buses and in urban areas declared under a state of emergency. The president also reiterated that the rollout will not affect workers’ Compensation for Time of Service (CTS) or national holidays. The security plan is part of a broader agenda that includes anti‑narcoterrorism operations in the VRAEM region, reconstruction efforts in Junín after recent earthquakes, and a S/ 140 million investment to mitigate El Niño impacts.
