Peruvian Senate Candidate Santusa Mamani Blames Bolivia for Leftist Indoctrination in Puno
Santusa Ancisa Mamani Vilca, a Senate candidate for the Fujimorist Fuerza Popular party, claimed that left‑wing indoctrination in Peru's highland region of Puno is being driven from Bolivia. She alleged that NGOs, social organisations and teachers are spreading a divisive discourse, imposing fines on those who do not join strikes, and prohibiting the display of pro‑Fujimori symbols.
Mamani also said supporters have faced threats, including a house being burned, and that the political unrest has crippled local textile entrepreneurs, leaving them without orders this year. She noted that protests have resulted in 18 deaths in Puno and 70 nationwide, and dismissed the underlying grievances behind the mobilisations.
