Naldy Saldaña accuses La Bella Luz director of sexual assault

Peruvian cumbia singer Naldy Saldaña, 26, alleged that La Bella Luz musical director César Sánchez Chavesta sexually assaulted her on 18 June, describing an attempt to kiss and non‑consensual touching after she left the rehearsal bathroom. She filed a formal complaint on 19 June and later released security‑camera video showing the incident, which was made public on 4 August.

Following the video release, the orchestra placed Sánchez on indefinite suspension and the group's owner Óscar Custodio publicly apologized, announced the permanent removal of Sánchez and transferred full administration of La Bella Luz to his son Óscar Junior Custodio. The Peruvian Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Violence against Women opened a preliminary investigation, and police are gathering statements and video evidence.

Former members, including singer Claudia Salazar, have also published WhatsApp chats that they say demonstrate Sánchez’s repeated harassment. The case has attracted international media coverage in Spain, Colombia, the United States and other countries, sparking a broader debate on sexual harassment and protection of artists within Peru’s music industry.
