Pescara emergency services face nighttime medical coverage risks

In the province of Pescara, the Lega party has requested a meeting with regional health assessor Nicoletta Verì to address concerns regarding the reorganization of the 118 emergency service. Local administrators have raised alarms over the potential loss of nighttime medical coverage in three specific locations: Popoli Terme, Pescara Sud, and Pianella.

Under the recently approved regional reform, these stations are expected to transition from an Msa configuration (advanced medical rescue vehicle with a doctor) during the 12-hour daytime period to an Msab configuration (basic advanced medical rescue vehicle with a nurse but no doctor) during the 12-hour nighttime period.

Outside of the urban areas of Pescara and Montesilvano, which maintain 24-hour medical coverage, nighttime medical presence would be limited to the Scafa and Penne stations. Officials expressed concern that this reduction could impact emergency response times in complex mountainous and hilly terrains, such as the Gran Sasso and Maiella areas, which rely on these units for remote coverage.
