Pescara launches eye screening project for law enforcement
The Prefecture of Pescara has officially presented ‘Occhio alla prevenzione’ (Eye on Prevention), a new ophthalmic screening project designed for local law enforcement officers. Organized by the non-profit ADRICESTA Onlus in collaboration with the ASL of Pescara, the initiative aims to provide early detection of visual defects and ocular pathologies, including asymptomatic conditions.
The program will involve approximately 600 personnel from the State Police, Carabinieri, Guardia di Finanza, and the Maritime Directorate. Four screening sessions are scheduled to take place between September and November 2026 at dedicated facilities within the ASL.
Medical evaluations will include anamnesis questionnaires, autorefractometry, vision testing, stereopsis tests, tonometry, biomicroscopy, and macular OCT. The project also serves an experimental purpose, as anonymous data collected will be used to inform future prevention activities and evaluate the potential for replicating this model in other regions.
