Pescara launches social veterinarian service for pets

The Municipality of Pescara has launched a ‘social veterinarian’ service designed to support families facing economic hardship. The initiative aims to ensure essential healthcare for pets, thereby preventing animal abandonment or the relinquishment of ownership caused by financial instability.

Under the new program, participating veterinarians will offer subsidized, controlled prices. The city has issued two public notices: one for veterinarians and freelancers wishing to join a service catalog, and another for families seeking assistance. Local officials stated the goal is to promote animal welfare and assist households that cannot currently afford medical costs for their companion animals.
