Veterinary service developments in Italy

Overview

Various veterinary initiatives have been introduced across different Italian municipalities. In Pescara, the local government launched a ‘social veterinarian’ service to provide subsidized medical care for pets, aiming to prevent animal abandonment among families facing economic hardship.

In Brescia, the Order of Veterinary Physicians initiated an educational program for primary school students focused on food supply chains, animal welfare, and the role of veterinarians in food safety. Additionally, in Corato, a new diagnostic laboratory named Apulia Vet began operations to provide specialized services and rapid sample transport for veterinary professionals in the northern Bari region.
