Pescara Residents Demand End to Door‑to‑Door Waste Collection

Citizens of Pescara gathered at a public assembly in the parish hall of Spirito Santo to criticize the municipality’s newly introduced door‑to‑door waste collection system. The local association Insieme per Pescara, led by president Luca Liberati, argued that the scheme is ineffective in dense urban areas such as Porta Nuova and the city centre, citing health hazards, increased presence of rats and gulls, and impediments for elderly pedestrians. The group called for a “step forward” and proposed the adoption of smart waste bins that could incentivise proper sorting and allow a variable tariff for the waste tax.

Liberati announced that the association will file a formal complaint and may seek intervention from a higher state authority after two previous notices to the municipality were ignored.
