Pet Shop Boys to release Alan Turing biographical album
The Pet Shop Boys are set to release a new album titled ‘A Man From The Future’ on October 9 via Parlophone Records. Developed in collaboration with Alan Turing biographer Andrew Hodges, the project serves as a musical portrait of the British mathematician and computer science pioneer.
The album is structured into eight chapters that chronologically trace Turing’s life, including his school years, his work at Cambridge, his contributions to decoding Enigma messages during World War II, his theories on artificial intelligence, and his eventual conviction for homosexuality and death in 1954.
While the duo originally performed versions of this work at the Royal Albert Hall in 2014, this new release features revised arrangements and a stronger emphasis on electronic sounds. The production, handled by the Pet Shop Boys and Sven Helbig, blends electronic music with classical strings performed by the Manchester Camerata Octet, spoken word narration by Juliet Stevenson, and contributions from a choir and Gordon Brown.
