Pet Shop Boys Alan Turing tribute album release and chart]
Overview
The Pet Shop Boys released their conceptual album, ‘A Man From The Future’, on 9 October 2026 via Parlophone Records. The eight-track project serves as a musical tribute to the life and legacy of British mathematician and codebreaker Alan Turing.
Developed in collaboration with Turing biographer Professor Andrew Hodges, the album follows a chronological structure covering Turing’s education, his work at Bletchley Park during World War II, his contributions to computing and artificial intelligence, and the legal persecution he faced due to his sexuality. While the duo originally performed versions of this work at the Royal Albert Hall in 2014, this release features revised arrangements with a stronger emphasis on electronic sounds.
The production, captured in the UK and Germany, features a blend of electronic music and orchestral arrangements by Sven Helbig, performed by the Manchester Camerata Octet, with spoken-word narration by actress Juliet Stevenson. Stevenson reads from Hodges’ biography, ‘Alan Turing: The Enigma’. Additional contributions include a choir and archival audio of former British Prime Minister Gordon Brown addressing Turing’s royal pardon.
Following its release, the album reached number 19 on the UK Official Albums Chart and number 6 on the UK Physical Albums Chart. It also saw international success, reaching number 8 in Germany, number 7 in Belgium, and number 12 in Switzerland. The tracklist includes ‘Natural Wonders Every Child Should Know’, ‘He Dreamed of Machines’, ‘The Enigma’, ‘Other Ranks’, ‘The Memory and the Control’, ‘The Trial’, ‘Only in His Death’, and the title track ‘A Man from the Future’.
