Serbia's RIK approves candidate lists for parliamentary elections
The Republic Electoral Commission (RIK) has declared several candidate lists for the upcoming extraordinary parliamentary elections in Serbia, scheduled for October 25. Among the newly approved lists are 'Bogoljub Karić – Pokret snaga Srbije' and 'Ćale ovo je za tebe – Petar Đurić – Premijer Srbije'.
The approval of the 'Ćale ovo je za tebe' list followed intense debate within the RIK regarding the validity of its signatures. Some commission members raised concerns over irregularities, including statements lacking signatures, missing identification numbers, and improper seals. Despite these disputes, the list was declared with 16 votes in favor. Petar Đurić, the list leader, described his movement as a 'third option' and proposed policies including the nationalization of natural resources and reducing enforcement commissions from 100 percent to 2.5 percent.
In the lead-up to the elections, tensions have risen regarding a proposed pre-election debate on Radio-televizija Srbije (RTS). President Aleksandar Vučić accepted the invitation to debate with Ilija Srdanović, the first candidate on the 'Studentska lista – Studenti pobeđuju'. However, Srdanović and the civil society organization CRTA have declined or conditioned their participation, with Srdanović criticizing the public broadcaster for a perceived lack of coverage for his list.
