Peter Obi addresses election claims, subsidy policy, and tensions with Anambra Governor
Peter Obi, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, has addressed several political and economic issues. In a recent interview with the BBC, Obi stated there is no evidence to prove his claim that he won the 2023 presidential election, though he maintains his belief that he won. He also signaled a policy shift regarding fuel subsidies, stating that if elected in 2027, he would restore the petrol subsidy provided that the corruption associated with the previous regime is eliminated.
In Anambra State, tensions have escalated between Obi and Governor Chukwuma Soludo. Obi’s media team, Peter Obi Media Reach (POMR), has accused Governor Soludo of being overly fixated on Obi, alleging that the governor spends significant time during executive council meetings discussing him rather than addressing state matters. Obi also responded to accusations from the Soludo administration regarding debts left from his tenure, denying the claims and stating that he has received only insults and accusations since leaving office.
Additionally, Obi has issued an appeal for peace following renewed hostilities between the Umuoba-Anam and Aguleri communities in Anambra State, urging leaders to choose dialogue over violence to prevent further destruction.
