Peter Obi’s One‑Term Promise and Power‑Supply Plans Face Presidential Critique

Presidential candidate Peter Obi of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) announced he would serve only a single four‑year term if elected in 2027. The Nigerian Presidency, through Senior Special Assistant Stanley Nkwocha, said the pledge could short‑change the South‑East’s long‑standing quest for an Igbo president and called for broader regional consultations.

Obi also told Channels Television that achieving nationwide 24‑hour electricity within four years is unrealistic. He pledged instead to boost generation, transmission and distribution to reliably deliver at least 10,000 megawatts, citing the Geometric Power model in Aba as a template for other regions. He warned the federal government must settle debts owed to power companies to restore investor confidence and emphasized transparent, realistic commitments.
