Petřín funicular reopens in Prague after two-year reconstruction
The Petřín funicular in Prague has resumed operations following a two-year general reconstruction. The project, which included track repairs and technical upgrades, was necessitated by the aging infrastructure and slope instability.
New fourth-generation vehicles, designed by the Czech studio Anna Marešová Designers and manufactured by the Austrian-Swiss Doppelmayr/Garaventa Group, are now in service. These cars feature increased capacity of 120 passengers and larger glass surfaces for improved city views. A unique interactive feature allows the cars to “wink” at each other using lights and interior illumination when passing on the hillside.
The funicular is currently in a trial operation phase with services running approximately every ten minutes from 07:00 to 22:15. While single-ride ticket prices have increased to 100 CZK (90 CZK via the PID Lítačka app), holders of long-term transit passes, children under 15, and seniors over 65 can continue to use the service without additional fees.
