Petřín funicular reopens in Prague with new designer cars

The Petřín funicular in Prague has officially resumed operations following a reconstruction period of more than two years. The line was previously damaged by heavy rains in September 2024, necessitating extensive repairs.

The reopening features new panoramic cars designed by Anna Marešová, which can accommodate up to 120 passengers each. The design includes an interactive element where, when two cars pass each other, one flashes its headlight at the other, causing the second car's interior to glow red.

The reconstruction of the track cost approximately 134 million CZK (excluding VAT), while the new cars cost nearly 138 million CZK. During its first weekend of service, the funicular experienced high demand, resulting in long queues of visitors. The service currently operates daily from 07:00 to 22:15 at ten-minute intervals.
