Petr Honěk detained in VZP and pharmaceutical investigation

Petr Honěk, the chairman of the board of the Příbram Regional Hospital, was detained by police during an investigation involving the General Health Insurance Company (VZP) and several pharmaceutical firms. The police operation, which included raids at VZP headquarters and approximately ten pharmaceutical companies, resulted in the detention of three individuals, all of whom have since been released without charge.

The investigation is reportedly focused on suspicions of corruption related to the unauthorized handling of sensitive medical data from the insurance company. Honěk, who previously held high-level management positions at VZP, stated that the police inquiry pertains exclusively to his former tenure at the insurer and has no connection to his current role at the Příbram hospital or its medical operations.

Honěk maintains that he has committed no illegal or criminal acts during his time at VZP and expressed his readiness to cooperate with authorities to clarify the circumstances. The largest health insurance company in the Czech Republic is expected to act as the injured party in the case.
