Romanian political parties face legislative and internal tensions

Romania's political landscape is facing significant shifts as parties prepare for the new parliamentary session. Petrișor Peiu, leader of AUR senators, has clarified that he will not leave the party despite recent internal tensions regarding the integrity law and the 'Fritz amendment.' Peiu expressed disillusionment with politics but reaffirmed his support for George Simion and the AUR party line.

In the legislative sphere, the Chamber of Deputies' Legal Commission rejected ten USR initiatives aimed at judicial reform, a move USR deputy Stelian Ion criticized as an attempt by PSD and AUR to avoid public debate. Meanwhile, the Permanent Electoral Authority (AEP) met with representatives from various political groups, including PSD, PNL, USR, and AUR, to discuss a new draft law regarding the organization, financing, and regulation of political parties.

Regarding government formation, PSD is scheduled to meet in Sinaia to analyze options for a future government. UDMR deputy Csoma Botond stated a personal refusal to collaborate with AUR or sovereignist groups, describing it as a 'red line.' Additionally, AUR members have called for the resignation of Timișoara Mayor Dominic Fritz, arguing that his mandate does not place him above the law following legal developments.
