Leipzig completes 28 million euro renovation of historic Petrischule
Leipzig has completed a 28.1 million euro renovation of the historic Petrischule, one of the city’s oldest school sites. The project included a modern expansion that transforms the mid-19th-century building into a closed complex with an internal courtyard, increasing capacity to 18 classes for 385 students. The renovation focused on monument protection, climate adaptation, and full accessibility. The Free State of Saxony contributed 11.1 million euros to the project.
This initiative is part of a broader municipal strategy to invest in educational infrastructure and preserve existing buildings. Other planned projects in the region include the opening of the Dösner Weg community school and the Ratzelstraße secondary school sports hall in 2027, alongside ongoing renovations at the Astrid-Lindgren-Schule and Gundorf school.
