Petrobras approves new diesel subsidy to stabilize domestic prices
Petrobras' board of directors has approved the company's participation in a new federal economic subsidy program for diesel producers and importers. Established under Provisional Measure 1,391, the program provides a subsidy of R$ 1 per liter of road-use diesel 'A' for an initial period of 30 days, with the possibility of a 30-day extension.
This new measure is cumulative with an existing subsidy of R$ 1.12 per liter. The subsidy will be applied as a direct discount to the prices sold to resellers. This strategy aims to stabilize domestic fuel prices and mitigate market volatility caused by international oil price fluctuations and exchange rate changes. By offsetting a recent R$ 1 per liter price increase, the subsidy helps maintain stable prices for distributors and the end consumer.
Additionally, Petrobras reported receiving a R$ 448 million installment from a gasoline subsidy program, covering sales between July 16 and July 31. With this latest payment, the total accumulated amount received by the company through diesel, gasoline, and LPG subsidy programs has reached R$ 9.9 billion.
