Petrobras launches record R$270 million cultural funding programme

Petrobras announced the 2026 edition of its Petrobras Cultural Selection, allocating a record R$270 million to support artistic, audiovisual, digital and game‑development projects across Brazil. The programme offers eleven sponsorship modalities, including two new categories – production of games and cultural incubation – and seeks proposals from all states, reserving at least 15 % of the total budget for each region. At least 25 % of the selected projects must involve historically under‑represented groups such as women, Black creators, Indigenous peoples, LGBTQI+ and people with disabilities. The company’s president Magda Chambriard said, “Com esta seleção pública de 270 milhões estamos promovendo e impulsionando a sociedade brasileira. Isso é arte e cultura, mas é também emprego, renda, reconhecimento internacional.”

In a related initiative, Petrobras extended the deadline for its second‑edition Journalism Selection to 12 July 2026, offering fifteen scholarships of R$20 000 each (totaling R$300 000) for journalists to produce audio, video or text pieces on the theme “Science and Energies of the Future.” The programme aims to diversify media coverage and support journalists from all regions of Brazil.
