Petrolina social project raises R$ 1.5 million for local hospital

The 'Abrace um Denguinho' project, a collaboration between singer João Gomes and the Petrolina City Hall through the Transforma Petrolina program, raised approximately R$ 1.5 million for Hospital Dom Tomás during a Children's Day event.

Alinne Durando, the volunteer coordinator of Transforma Petrolina, worked alongside Mayor Simão Durando to organize the initiative. For seven years, the volunteer program has operated across various regions, including indigenous communities, riverside areas, and rural zones, focusing on women, the elderly, and children.

Key areas of the program's work include menstrual dignity for women and girls, food security, and support for the Petrolina Female Penitentiary. In 2025, the program received an award from the Ministry of Social Development (MDS) for its efforts in ensuring food access for those in need.
