Petrolina community and charity initiatives

Overview

As part of Petrolina’s 131st-anniversary celebrations, the city organized several community events, including a Christian Festival and the second edition of the ‘Abrace um Denguinho’ project. The latter, scheduled for Children’s Day, featured a performance by singer João Gomes and aimed to collect food and donations for Hospital Dom Tomás.

The ‘Abrace um Denguinho’ initiative, a collaboration between João Gomes and the Petrolina City Hall through the Transforma Petrolina program, successfully raised approximately R$ 1.5 million for Hospital Dom Tomás. The Transforma Petrolina volunteer program has operated for seven years, supporting various demographics including indigenous communities, rural zones, and women, the elderly, and children. In 2025, the program was recognized by the Ministry of Social Development for its work in food security.
