Petros Polychronidis shares childhood memories of Giorgos Mazonakis

Presenter Petros Polychronidis shared nostalgic childhood memories regarding Greek singer Giorgos Mazonakis via Instagram. The two grew up in the same apartment building on Markou Botsari Street in Nikaia.

Polychronidis recounted a specific incident from the summer of 1984, when Mazonakis was 12 years old. Mazonakis and his friends had built a handmade puppet theater and organized performances in their courtyard. To attend, Polychronidis recalls that Mazonakis would use a paper megaphone to invite neighborhood children, charging an admission fee of two drachmas.

When a six-year-old Polychronidis questioned why they had to pay, the young Mazonakis reportedly replied, ‘Here we are going to make art, Petrakos. This is what adults pay for.’ Polychronidis noted that the singer’s artistic inclination was evident from a very young age.
