Petrova Gora WWII breakthrough and Pofalićka 1992 battle commemorated

On Saturday the 78th anniversary of the 1942 partisan breakthrough at Petrova Gora in Croatia was marked with a ceremony organized by the Serbian National Council, the Association of Anti‑Fascist Fighters of the Republic of Croatia and local municipalities. Participants laid flowers at the monument, recalled the site’s role as a refuge for civilians from the Kordun region, and condemned attempts to revise the history of the Ustaše regime. Serbian National Council president Boris Milošević warned that “anti‑fascist culture of memory must not depend on political circumstances,” while SDSS delegate Milorad Pupovac criticised the lack of state representation at the event.

In Bosnia and Herzegovina, the 34th anniversary of the Pofalićka battle – a decisive May 16, 1992 defence of Sarajevo’s Pofalići district against JNA and SDS forces – was observed in Novo Sarajevo. Local officials, representatives of the Ministry for War Veterans, and families of fallen fighters placed wreaths, highlighted the battle’s importance for the city’s continued resistance, and reminded that 16 May is celebrated as the municipality’s day. The event underscored the historical significance of both commemorations for regional collective memory.
