Peugeot 208 electric to debut in 2027 with Chinese‑made motor

Peugeot will launch a new all‑electric version of the 208 in 2027, using the STLA Small (STLA One) platform and a retro‑inspired design that references the Polygon concept and the classic 205. The first‑year model will be equipped with an electric motor supplied by China’s Jing‑Jin Electric Technologies (JJE).

From 2028, Peugeot plans to replace the Chinese unit with a motor built by Emotors, the Stellantis‑Nidec joint venture, with rotor and stator produced at Stellantis’ Trémery plant and final assembly in Hungary. The strategy aims to bring the vehicle to market before competitors such as the Renault 5, while the conventional‑fuel 208 will continue alongside the electric version for several more years.
