Peugeot expands lineup while 208 sales split

Entities: STLA One platform · Peugeot 408 · FaSTLAne 2030 · Stellantis · Peugeot

Overview

By mid‑2026 Peugeot accelerated its electrification with the launch of the fully electric E‑308 and the third‑generation 308, while retaining internal‑combustion 208 models in markets where EV demand remains modest. The company confirmed the existing 208 will stay in production beyond 2030, with CEO Alain Favey saying it will be kept “as long as there is demand”. An all‑electric e‑208 is now slated for launch in the second half of 2024, ahead of the previously mentioned 2027 target, and a major facelift for the current 208 may align it with the upcoming EV version. In July, Peugeot unveiled the electric 208 GTi, priced at £34,995 before incentives, qualifying for the UK’s £1,500 Electric Car Grant. The model delivers 276 bhp, 221 lb‑ft of torque, a 54 kWh battery and a WLTP range of 217 miles. First‑half‑2026 sales showed a sharp market split: the 208 was France’s best‑selling hatchback with 38,388 registrations (3.7 % market share), yet only 2,960 units were sold in Brazil – a drop of about 30 % and under 500 per month. Peugeot also announced a seven‑model offensive through 2030 to lift global annual sales from 1.1 million to 1.5 million units. The programme, detailed in July 2026, will begin with the next‑generation e‑208 built on the new STLA One modular platform and styled with cues from the historic 205. It also includes a new 308 generation, three C‑segment EVs from a €400 million Mulhouse investment, and two D‑segment models co‑developed with Dongfeng for markets outside Europe. Two concept cars will be shown at the Paris Motor Show in October. Later in July, Peugeot confirmed development of a second‑generation electric 408 fastback.
