Peugeot 208 leads French sales while lagging in Brazil

In the first half of 2026 the Peugeot 208 recorded a sharp contrast between markets. In Brazil it sold only 2,960 units – under 500 per month – a drop of about 30 % compared with the same period in 2025 and falling behind premium‑segment models. By contrast, in its home market of France the 208 was the best‑selling hatchback, with 38,388 registrations, a 3.7 % market share, still ahead of the Dacia Sandero and Renault Clio despite a 2.5 % year‑on‑year decline.

A new generation of the 208 is expected to debut in Europe in 2027. Renderings show a refreshed exterior based on the Polygon Concept, a continuous slim light signature at the front and rear, and a profile that remains close to the current model. Under the skin, the next‑gen 208 will use Stellantis’ STLA One platform, supporting fully electric variants with lithium‑iron‑phosphate batteries that could deliver up to 500 km of range. Interior updates may include a rectangular “Hypersquare” steering wheel and steer‑by‑wire technology. The current model is manufactured at Stellantis’ El Palomar plant in Argentina for regional export.
