Peugeot 308 reliability concerns and new electric leasing options unveiled

Peugeot has launched a social‑leasing programme for its electric vehicles, including the e‑208, e‑2008 and e‑308. The e‑308 can be leased for €199 per month on a 36‑month contract with a 45,000 km allowance, provided the household income is below €16,880, the driver lives more than 10 km from work and drives over 8,000 km a year. The model offers a 444 km mixed‑cycle range, an 11 kW onboard charger and a limited 100 kW fast‑charge capability.

The Peugeot 308’s reputation for reliability varies across its generations and engine families. Early 1.6 THP gasoline units suffered distribution‑chain and oil‑consumption problems, while the 1.6 HDi diesel variants faced injector and turbo issues. Later BlueHDi and post‑fix PureTech engines show improved durability, although early PureTech units had a belt‑in‑oil defect that prompted warranty extensions. Common wear items on older cars include clutch and flywheel, suspension components, climate‑system parts and emission‑sensor electronics, all of which can be mitigated with proper maintenance.
