Peugeot considers hybrid GTi models but rejects sporty SUVs

Peugeot CEO Alain Favey has indicated that while the brand's immediate focus for the revived GTi badge is the electric e-208 GTi, a hybrid version of the performance model remains a possibility. The e-208 GTi serves as a "halo car" intended to enhance the brand's sporting image rather than drive high sales volumes.

Favey emphasized that the GTi badge will remain exclusive to compact sports cars and will not be applied to SUVs, despite the growing market demand for sporty utility vehicles. Any future hybrid GTi would be subject to strict performance standards to ensure it lives up to the brand's heritage.

A significant hurdle for future high-performance thermal models is the ecological tax system, particularly in France, where high CO2 emissions can lead to prohibitive costs for consumers.
