Peugeot electric models become majority of sales in France and Germany

In April and May, more than half of private‑customer orders for Peugeot models such as the 208 and 3008 in France and Germany were for fully electric versions, taking the electric share from about 20 % to a clear majority, according to CEO Alain Favey. Registrations of electric vehicles rose by over 40 % in both countries, boosted by affordable offerings from Stellantis, Volkswagen and Chinese makers and sustained public subsidies.

Peugeot’s next‑generation 208, slated for launch in autumn 2025, will be equipped with a 100 % Chinese‑sourced electric motor supplied by Jing‑Jin Electric Technologies, with a later switch planned to a motor from the Stellantis‑Nidec joint venture Emotors around mid‑2028. The move reflects Peugeot’s deeper partnership with Chinese firms, including a revived joint venture with Dongfeng and a stake in Leapmotor, as the brand pivots toward electrification across its European lineup.
