Peugeot shifts EV strategy to include hybrid and gasoline models

Peugeot is shifting its European market strategy, moving away from a previous commitment to sell exclusively electric vehicles by 2030. The manufacturer will instead adopt a balanced approach, offering a mix of electric, hybrid, and gasoline models to meet diverse consumer needs and market conditions.

As part of this renewal, Peugeot plans to introduce seven new or significantly updated models by the end of the decade. The rollout will begin with new generations of the Peugeot 208 and 2008, which will feature both fully electric and modernized internal combustion or hybrid variants. CEO Alain Faure noted that the brand's position within the Stellantis group provides priority access to new technologies and helps absorb development costs.

Starting in 2027, Peugeot will implement the new STLA One platform, which aims to standardize bases across B, C, and D segments. This platform is expected to enable improved range, faster charging, and advanced software architectures. The new E-208 is anticipated to serve as a technological showcase, potentially featuring steer-by-wire technology and a digital cockpit design.
