Indonesia electric vehicle industry pushes for incentives and infrastructure

Stakeholders in Indonesia's electric vehicle (EV) sector are advocating for strategic policy shifts to accelerate the transition to green mobility. The Indonesian Electric Vehicle Industry Association (PERIKLINDO) is highlighting the need for expanded incentives, suggesting that support should not be limited to nickel-based batteries but should also consider alternative technologies like Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) to ensure affordability and technological diversity.

There are competing views regarding the types of vehicles that should receive government priority. The Green Transition Initiative (INDEF GTI) has urged the government to prioritize Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV) over hybrids to maximize fuel savings and reduce the burden on the national budget. Conversely, the Ministry of Industry has proposed exempting hybrid vehicles from odd-even traffic restrictions, a move supported by PERIKLINDO due to the role hybrids play in reducing emissions and fuel consumption.

Upcoming industry events, including the PERIKLINDO Electric Vehicle Conference (PEVC) 2026 and the PERIKLINDO Electric Vehicle Show (PEVS) 2026, will focus on the electrification of commercial fleets and the expansion of the EV ecosystem. These forums aim to address critical infrastructure needs, such as reliable charging stations and electricity tariff policies, to support the integration of electric vehicles into logistics and transportation sectors.
