Pfizer Catania labor dispute: Unions seek suspension of redundancy terms
A meeting at the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy regarding the labor dispute at the Pfizer plant in Catania has been postponed. The meeting was intended to include representatives from the company, labor unions, and the government.
Labor unions have formally requested that the Ministry and Pfizer Italy suspend the terms of the collective redundancy procedure. This procedure, initiated on July 2, 2026, involves 330 redundancies out of a total workforce of 540 employees at the Catania facility.
Union leaders from CGIL, UIL, CISL, and UGL expressed concern that the postponement limits the time available to examine alternatives to Pfizer's plan and evaluate the impact on employment and plant organization. The discussions also involve a proposal to close two departments, a move the government previously asked the company to reconsider to maintain employment levels.
