Pfizer plant in Catania faces mass protest over 330 layoffs

Hundreds of workers and union representatives gathered at the gates of Pfizer's Catania facility to oppose a planned cut of 330 jobs. Union leaders from CGIL, CISL, UIL and UGL demanded the termination of the layoffs, protection for temporary staff, new investments in the site, and the resignation of CEO Giuseppe Campobasso, citing a loss of confidence in management. The protest also drew support from local officials, political figures, and the Archbishop of Catania, who called on the government to back the workers. The Ministry of Health and Ministry of Labour have indicated they will meet with the unions ahead of a scheduled dialogue on July 22.
