Pforzheim sets new cycling record during heatwave

The city of Pforzheim has set a new record for the ‘Stadtradelncycling campaign, despite experiencing extreme heat and record-breaking temperatures during the event period from June 25 to July 15.

A total of 978 active participants completed 19,448 trips, covering 238,674 kilometers. This collective effort resulted in the avoidance of approximately 39 tons of CO2 compared to car usage.

During the official award ceremony held on September 15, Environmental Mayor Tobias Volle praised the results, noting that the bicycle serves as a viable daily alternative even in harsh weather. This year, winners were determined by lottery rather than performance to emphasize that every trip contributes to the transport transition. Awards were also presented to students with the highest number of trips, the school with the most trips per person, and the most active company and team.
