PGZ and MESKO secure 8 billion PLN PIORUN missile contract
The Polish Armament Agency and MESKO have signed a framework agreement for the supply of several thousand PIORUN missiles and several hundred launch sets to the EDIRPA VSHORAD consortium. The planned executive contracts are expected to exceed 8 billion PLN net.
The EDIRPA VSHORAD consortium is composed of Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, and Norway, with Poland acting as the project leader. More than 80 percent of the ordered equipment is designated for the Polish Armed Forces, with funding provided through the SAFE program to support European defense capabilities. Deliveries are scheduled to continue through 2030.
General Artur Kuptel, head of the Armament Agency, noted that the order involves “large thousands” of sets. The PIORUN system is a very short-range air defense solution capable of engaging helicopters, aircraft, and drones at distances between 0.4 and 6.5 km. The agreement marks a significant expansion of production capacity for MESKO and strengthens the position of Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa (PGZ) as a supplier for NATO and European partners.
