Phú Quốc Airport runway 2 illuminated ahead of July calibration flight

A new 3,300‑metre runway (Runway 2) at Phú Quốc International Airport was fitted with a modern 500‑LED beacon system and lit up for the final verification step before a calibration flight scheduled for 27 July. Engineers inspected each light cluster for intensity, direction and power as part of the last adjustment phase.

The runway, 45 m wide and capable of handling wide‑body aircraft such as the Boeing 787, Airbus A350 and Boeing 777, was completed in just eight months—a speed that experts described as unprecedented in Vietnam’s aviation history. Comparable mainland runways typically require two to three years to build. The rapid timeline was achieved despite the island’s challenging sea‑island terrain, heavy rain and logistical hurdles in transporting heavy machinery and specialized materials by sea.
