Phu Quoc Airport runway 2 development
Entities: Beechcraft B300 King Air 350ER · Sun Group · Phu Quoc International Airport · ADB Safegate · Dương Cao Nông
Overview
In late July 2026, Phu Quoc International Airport completed the final steps of its new Runway 2 project. On 26 July engineers illuminated the 3,300‑metre, 45‑metre‑wide runway with a modern 500‑LED beacon system, testing each light cluster for intensity, direction and power. The runway, built in just eight months—far faster than typical mainland projects—was designed to accommodate wide‑body aircraft such as the Boeing 787, Airbus A350 and Boeing 777.
The following day, a Czech‑registered Beechcraft B300 King Air 350ER performed the first ILS/DME calibration flight, despite adverse weather. The mixed Vietnamese‑Czech crew tested the instrument landing system, distance measuring equipment and the PAPI runway‑end lighting. The LED lighting, supplied by ADB Safegate, can be controlled individually from a remote console, creating a 3.3‑km “light strip” that enhances safety for night operations. The successful trial meets the airport’s commitments for the APEC 2027 summit and confirms Runway 2’s compliance with ICAO Code E standards.
