Pham Nhat Vuong's LPBank stake fuels sharp share surge

Vietnamese billionaire Pham Nhat Vuong, chairman of Vingroup, disclosed ownership of 146.2 million LPBank shares, representing about 4.9% of the bank’s capital. The filing triggered a dramatic market reaction: LPBank (ticker LPB) hit the circuit‑breaker ceiling, climbing over 13% in two trading days and reaching a high of VND 55,500 per share.

On 23 June, record‑high negotiated trades saw 163.8 million shares—about 5.15% of the bank’s equity—change hands at VND 46,000–48,000 per share, amounting to roughly VND 7.5 trillion in value. Buyers stood to realize more than VND 1.5 trillion in unrealized gains before settlement. The surge also buoyed the broader market, with the VN‑Index climbing over 10 points and foreign investors net‑buying more than VND 1.4 trillion.

Pham Nhat Vuong’s personal investment benefited significantly; the two‑day rally added an estimated VND 920 billion to the value of his LPBank holdings, raising his net‑worth by about USD 2 billion to roughly USD 35.5 billion. LPBank reported strong Q1 results, including pre‑tax profit of VND 2.826 trillion and a 252% jump in foreign‑exchange revenue, reinforcing the positive sentiment around the bank.
