Vietnam authorities crack down on social media influencers

Vietnamese authorities have launched a series of legal actions against several high-profile social media influencers and “online gangsters” for various crimes including fraud, spreading misinformation, and producing violent content.

In Ho Chi Minh City, Lê Thị Hiểu, manager of the TikTok account “QuyHoi,” was detained for spreading false information and distorting state policies to gain views and engagement. In Hanoi, Phạm Tuấn and nine accomplices were prosecuted for producing and distributing violent web dramas that violated cybersecurity and cinema laws, generating hundreds of millions of VND in illicit profit.

Other notable cases include Nguyễn Thị Hương (“Cô giáo Hương”), who was prosecuted for deceptive advertising of health products, and Bùi Xuân Huấn (“Huấn Hoa Hồng”), who faced charges related to fraud and serious accounting violations involving hundreds of billions of VND in unreported revenue. These cases highlight a growing crackdown on influencers who exploit their digital following for illegal financial gain or to spread harmful content.
