Pharmacy services expand role in diabetes monitoring and care

Pharmacies are increasingly serving as essential hubs for health prevention and continuous monitoring, bridging the gap between clinical services and daily life. Pharmacists play a critical role in this ecosystem by providing guidance, encouraging healthy habits, and monitoring vital health indicators.

Diabetes remains a primary focus for continuous care due to its high prevalence. According to the World Health Organization, approximately 828 million adults globally live with diabetes, representing 14% of the adult population. In Brazil, an estimated 19.9 million people—about 12.9% of the population—live with the condition.

Data from Pague Menos indicates that diabetes accounts for 15.6% of chronic health conditions identified among their continuous care clients. Services such as blood glucose testing allow for accessible monitoring and ongoing support within the pharmacy setting.
