Philadelphia officer Hector Rodriguez released from hospital after ambush shooting

Philadelphia Police Officer Hector Rodriguez was released from the hospital on Saturday, October 24, two weeks after being shot 12 times in an ambush in West Philadelphia. Rodriguez's condition has improved significantly since the incident on October 10, which occurred while he and his partner were responding to reports of a man with a gun on North 52nd Street.

The ambush resulted in the death of Sgt. Shane Seiber, a 10-year veteran who was posthumously promoted to sergeant. Seiber's funeral was held on October 20, attended by hundreds of law enforcement officers and community members.

The suspect, 35-year-old Eric Lewis, faces multiple charges including murder and attempted murder. The U.S. Attorney's Office has also indicted Lewis on federal charges. Investigators stated that Lewis allegedly fired at a total of 11 officers before being taken into custody by SWAT units. Three firearms linked to the shooting have been recovered.
